First, a Public Service Announcement: The weather forecast for Monday includes the words “Lifethreatening Cold.” If you’re in this cold zone, please take precautions if you have to go out; make sure that every inch of skin is covered and that you have a charged cell phone and blanket in case of an accident or car trouble. Getting some of these handwarmer packets would be good, too.
Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out there, I’m excited to finally share with you two big things for Knitcircus Yarns!
Remember the Huge Secret Wholesale Project I mentioned on Facebook and Twitter? The one that took up much of December in the Lair? Well, I’m happy to be able to tell you now that Knitcircus was chosen for the first YarnClub.net Awesome Box! Working closely with Head Honcho Johnny Vasquez (you may know him from New Stitch a Day videos), we developed an exclusive gradient and coordinating kettle dye to evoke a frozen lake.
The fun Unboxing Video was the first glimpse I had of the other treats, and it made me want to purchase a box for myself! I’ve been a fan of Heidi and Lana since meeting them at Vogue Chicago last year, and their stitch markers for the box are gorgeous. Lavishae lotion bars (yum!) and a cool snowflake needle gauge from new-to-me shop Seven Yaks rounded out the goodies.
This project was a big bite for me, so thanks to all of my Yarn Clubbers for their patience while I finished it up. My Yarn Lair associate, Amy J, worked extra hours to help get all of the skeins and cakes processed and packaged. Doing such a big order (220 yarns all told) made us examine the process and find ways to do more faster at every step. I had some late nights, let me tell you! I would get yarns hanging up to dry at midnight and Amy would come in and process them in the morning.
Of course, our family was also creating the Best Christmas Ever ™ during the days, so it was definitely a challenge. But a worthwhile one. And I knew we had chosen good colors, because we both still loved the colorways even as we packaged up the last batch.
So thanks so much to Johnny and Lacie for including Knitcircus Yarns in the Awesome Box! Now I know what it takes to make a big order like that. I would do it again if I had another employee. Which may just happen soon….
Two of my fave podcasts, Spilled Milk and The Knitmore Girls, mentioned Squarespace on their ‘casts, and I’ve been looking for a new web platform for a while. I gave it a spin and love it! Even an un-savvy end-user like me can create a site, and I found everything very intuitive. So, at long last, Knitcircus has a new website for the New Year!
…And a Finished Object
A hat for me! The Star-Crossed Slouchy Beret was fun to knit, and cozy to wear.
Stay warm everyone!
