Madison is such a hotbed of knitters; I ran into author Sheryl Thies at the Meg Swansen/Amy Detjen book signing at beloved LYS The Sow’s Ear, and she gave me a copy of her new book, Knitting by Nature!
I’m passing on the good fortune to one of you; this book includes 19 scarves, wraps and shawls, all inspired by garden plants. Most of the designs feature very approachable lace patterns, not surprisingly, many flower and leaf lace formations. I do like to knit shawls but not those that are real pointy as it points you know where, so something more crescent shaped or more rounded.

Tulips are my favorite flower and I gravitate towards lace triangular shaped shawls.
Sheryl has some wonderful designs. I love the Tunisian-crochet pattern for Tranquil Escape. In shawls, I think my favorite is Flames – but there are lots of great patterns.

I haven’t knit many shawls, but after doing a triangle, I think a crescent shape would be better, or at least a triangle with a little shaping to hold it on the shoulders. Thanks for the giveaway.

I am in definite agreement on the beet root cowl. I am a fan of side to side shawls. It is nice to reach a halfway point and knowing you are on the downward slide.

As I absolutely love shawl, and wear them in every season. I figured out that the longer the upper edge is, the wearable the shawl gets. My fav from Sheryl Thies is Bleeding Heart.

The Sea Foam scarf looks light enough for summer. I can see it in a light linen/cotton.
I recently completed the Silk Moon Crescent Shawlette and really like the way the shape hugs my shoulders. I am knitting the Falling Leaves Mohair-Silk Scarf by Helen Rush from Luxury Yarns One-Skein Wonders now. I love the look of this pattern, although my lace chart reading needs more practice! I like a shawl shape that I can wear as a scarf or a shawl, so a long triangle or rectangle would be my favorite.
I like a nice big triangle shawl the best. But I have made all shapes and sizes and wear them all.
I’m fond of the smaller shawlette shape shawl – so versatile.
I am still new to lace knitting, I have only really done triangle shaped, so I suppose those are my favorite now, beautiful cover and amazing patterns.

Dragonfly is one of my favourites.
I’m not sure that there’s one pattern I prefer, they’re all fantastic! I suppose that if I have to pick a particular shape, I’d tend towards the pointy style, especially smaller ones I can wrap around my neck like a scarf or cowl.
I ‘m fond of rectangle shawls/wraps, the longer the better.
I’m a fairly new knitter & have not yet tackled a shawl, so I don’t have a favorite. I’d love to win the book so I can begin shawl knitting!

My favourite shawl shape is the oblong. I find it both warmer and easier to knit.
I am enjoying JaWolle’s Glücksspirale or Lucy Spiral lace shawl. I am adding beads and knitting it in a soft silk wool blend.
