Knitting By Nature Book Giveaway

Madison is such a hotbed of knitters; I ran into author  Sheryl Thies at the Meg Swansen/Amy Detjen book signing at beloved LYS The Sow’s Ear, and she gave me a copy of her new book, Knitting by Nature!

I’m passing on the good fortune to one of you; this book includes 19 scarves, wraps and shawls, all inspired by garden plants. Most of the designs feature very approachable lace patterns, not surprisingly, many flower and leaf lace formations. My fave is the Red Beets lace cowl, worked in a glorious red-purple Lorna’s Laces Shepherd’s worsted. You’ll also find the Acorn lace shawl, complete with little acorn tassels, Bean Sprouts scarflet, Bleeding Heart loop-closure stole,Brussels Sprout cabled and bobbled shawl, Clematis lace scarf, Colorado Blue Spruce and Daylily shrugs, Roses Cape, Tulip scarf, Hop Vines and Violets triangular shawls, Willow poncho, Maple Leaf mobius, Zebra Grass, Pears ascot, Ostrich-Plume Fern and Hyacinth rectangular stoles.

To enter, just leave a comment with your favorite Sheryl Thies design, your favorite kind of lace project or favorite shawl shape. The mighty Random Nunmber Generator will choose a lucky winner this Friday evening, July 20th.

Take care and stay cool,

Jaala

  1. I’m knitting my first shawl and it is triangle shape so I suppose that’s my favorite for now. 🙂

  2. I love the cover design, the Colorado Blue Spruce! It’s a cute pattern and I may have a bias toward Colorado because I live here and its GORGEOUS always 🙂 Great giveaway!

  3. I do like to knit shawls but not those that are real pointy as it points you know where, so something more crescent shaped or more rounded.

  4. I have Meg Swansen to thank for my lace addiction so…… any and all lace is my favorite. Love shawls and wraps too, such comfort. Thanks for the contest.

  5. I love crescents and would like to see more patterns for that kind of shawl. The book looks very promising. Thanks for the opportunity!

  6. Sheryl has some wonderful designs. I love the Tunisian-crochet pattern for Tranquil Escape. In shawls, I think my favorite is Flames – but there are lots of great patterns.

  7. I haven’t knit many shawls, but after doing a triangle, I think a crescent shape would be better, or at least a triangle with a little shaping to hold it on the shoulders. Thanks for the giveaway.

  8. I love the cover shawl, Colorado Blue Spruce, for the lace motif, the color and the unique shape. A three-way winner! I see lots of inspiration in this book. Thanks for the chance to own it.

  9. I like a faroese shawl shape. THey stay on your shoulders. But I’m not sure I spelled it correctly!

  10. I like the Clematis. My favorite shawl shape is crescent shape, I think they are the most graceful to wear.

  11. I am in definite agreement on the beet root cowl. I am a fan of side to side shawls. It is nice to reach a halfway point and knowing you are on the downward slide.

  12. I love the Colorado Blue Spruce shrug…I am partial to Blue spruces and Colorado. I also like the red beets lace cowl. This book looks great! Thanks for the chance to own this.

  13. I recently completed the Silk Moon Crescent Shawlette and really like the way the shape hugs my shoulders. I am knitting the Falling Leaves Mohair-Silk Scarf by Helen Rush from Luxury Yarns One-Skein Wonders now. I love the look of this pattern, although my lace chart reading needs more practice! This book looks like a wonder collection of great patterns. Thanks for a chance to win it.

  14. I like a shawl shape that I can wear as a scarf or a shawl, so a long triangle or rectangle would be my favorite.

  15. I love Clematis, Acorns, Bleeding Heart…just to name a few! What a spectacular collection. Thank you for a terrific giveaway!

  16. dragonfly is my favorite of the moment. watching them in the yard with my daughter is a relaxing summer day pastime!

  17. I’m fond of the Maple Leaf mobius for the fall and absolutely adore the Colorado Blue Spruce shrug! Thank you for a chance to win the fantastic book.

  18. I’m not sure that there’s one pattern I prefer, they’re all fantastic! I suppose that if I have to pick a particular shape, I’d tend towards the pointy style, especially smaller ones I can wrap around my neck like a scarf or cowl.

  19. I’m a fairly new knitter & have not yet tackled a shawl, so I don’t have a favorite. I’d love to win the book so I can begin shawl knitting!

  20. I haven’t knitted a lace pattern yet so I currently don’t have a favorite yet but would love to try one!

  21. I am enjoying JaWolle’s Glücksspirale or Lucy Spiral lace shawl. I am adding beads and knitting it in a soft silk wool blend.
    Plus… I love the name Sheryl… LOL….

  22. Love the Red Beets Cowl…luscious….and I’m not usually one for cowls! I typically wear shawls or wraps…but this is one I’d wear! Would love to win the book!

  23. The Ostrich-Plume Fern. I would knit this first then be vexed over which one to try next. Very creative patterns.
