WEBS  has generously provided enough Valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky for TWO kits, one purple, as shown, and one their Colonial (#40)  Blue. This quick-knit pattern from the Fall Knitcircus, by Quenna Lee, isn't just for kids, though our models were so cute we couldn't resist this shot. I finished one in one weekend, and found the lace intuitive and pattern fun to work.

WEBS was the first place I ever ordered yarn online; I had learned to knit recently, and my friend, who always had good ideas and had discovered a Debbie Bliss baby book, showed me the site and convinced me to go in on an order with her, because we'd get a discount that way. I couldn't believe so many yarns existed, and browsed the pages with growing excitement. Our then-budget didn't allow much wiggle room, so the WEBS' house brand Valley Yarns gave me a chance to try a Merino-Bamboo blend  and make my first lace scarf!

A family-run business for two generations, WEBS was passed on to trusted family friends Steve and Kathy Elkins; who stock almost every yarn under the sun and offer discounts the more fiber you buy! Their much-beloved podcast Ready, Set, Knit, offers yarn insights, glimpses of their family life and interviews with top designers.

When not knitting at Little League games, Jaala can be found knitting at beloved LYS The Sow's Ear, a Madison Knitters' Guild Board meeting or her own living room. She's taught both her kids to knit, and even to make tuna sandwiches for the rest of the family, so feels pretty good. If she could only figure out how to knit while typing, she'd be golden.

  18. Not having a yarn shop within an hour, I get my yarn, almost entirely, by ordering online. Unfortunatley, I haven’t used Valley Yarn in the past.

  21. What a fun hat! I’ve purchased from WEBS since the time they sent yarn snips out in envelopes on a monthly basis. I used to await those envelopes with great anticipation, but the website lets me indulge whenever I like. I’d make the hat for my niece in Arizona.

  34. I love the Valley Yarns Amherst – it really knits up nicely and gives a defined stitch! I think my coworker would love this in purple and it would one more Christmas present checked off 🙂

  43. Valley Yarns Charlemont Kettle Dye Burgandy is what I’d get if I could. A friend was working with some charlemont recently and it’s divine!
    I’d knit the hat twice, once for myself and once for my niece who loves hats and loves to have matching hats with me!

  69. I am lucky enough to be able to VISIT WEBS regularly… & now I travel past the exit 2 times per day! This brings on a daily temptation… Do I stop as a reward to me because I had a hard day? Or do I stop as a reward to me for a great day? Either way I am inspired and motivated! My fav is Northampton altho I also like Shelburne and Charlemont!

  72. The most curious thing happens every time I happen to be driving the Mass Turnpike towards Albany. My car suddenly veers off I-90 West and heads North up I91 to Northampton. Next thing I know, I’m wandering the aisles of Webs, not emerging until I have spent the equivalent of a month’s grocery money and lugging several bags of fuzzy fibery goodness. It’s bizarre…and it has happened more than once, believe me.
    Valley Yarns are a terrific bargain – I have some beautiful deep dark forest green in Colrain that I’m planning to use for a sweater for myself.
    I’d love to make these hats as Christmas presents for my two DILs. Just their style!
